Singapore: Singapore stocks opened with gains, with the Straits Times Index rose 6.8 points or 0.22 per cent to 3,221 as at 11.42 am.

Advances to decliner’s ratio stood at 141 to 71, after about 424.9M shares changed hands.

The most active traded counters included Rex International, which rose 0.1 cent, JCG investments at 0.002, Ezion 0.053,

Other active counters included YZJ Shipbld SGD, Capital land, UOB, OCBC Bank, DBS, which all were up more than 1%.

World Market

Early start of trading session market activity was lacklustre but later stocks shoot up higher. The major indexes averages gave back ground after the spike but managed to remain firmly in positive territory.

The Dow advanced 162.94 points or 0.7 percent to 24,370.10, the Nasdaq rose 49.77 points or 0.7 percent to 7,084.46 and the S&P 500 climbed 19.86 points or 0.8 percent to 2,635.96.

A negative reaction to quarterly results from Morgan Stanley (MS) put pressure on the markets early in the session, which slide 4.4 percent.

The yield on 10-year Treasury note rose above 2.75 percent to its high of the day on the report. The 2-year yield also hit 2.57 percent before slipping back to 2.55 percent.
